தென் கைலாயம் நமது பேரூர் புராணத்தில் இடம பெற்றுள்ள முக்கியமான திருக்கோயில் ஆகும். காமதேனுவின் பூஜை ஏற்ற ஸ்ரீ பட்டீசுவரரின் திருநடனம் காண பிரம்மா, விஷ்ணு இருவரும் கோமுனி, பட்டிமுனி எண்ணம் உருவம் தாங்கி ஆத்மார்த்த வழிபாடுகள் செய்து அதன்பின் ஸ்ரீபட்டிசுவரரை தரிசனம் செய்துள்ளனர். மகாவிஷ்ணு தான் வந்ததற்கு அடையாளமாகவும் ஆத்மார்த்த மூர்த்தியாகவும் தென் கைலாசநாதர் எண்ணம் ஆலயத்தை அமைத்து உள்ளார். எனவே இது புராண சிறப்பு வாய்ந்தது.
